Four years ago, I printed off almost 500 copies of the photos I took around Auckland.
That’s 500 prints of different sizes I had lying around in my room doing absolutely nothing other than collecting dust. So I thought what the heck, why not put those prints to good use and share them with as many people as I could?
I went around the Auckland CBD sticking the photos up where I originally took them, on the back of each photo I left a little message explaining to people that it’s totally ok to take the photo home with them.
The photos were inside of cheap frames. The backs were signed, and each was numbered to show how many of those prints I made.
What I hoped would happen was people finding the photos on walls and sharing in that memory with me. What ended up happening was dozens of messages of people hunting the photos down and emails from the lucky hunters thanking me. It was all just a bit magical.
